Error Message: "An attempt was made to modify a PurchaseOrder with a date that is on or before the closing date of the company."

Cause: This error occurs when you try to edit a purchase order that has a date on or before the company's closing date in QuickBooks.

Solution:

To fix this issue, you can:

  1. Ask an Admin: Request a user with Admin privileges to remove the password for editing transactions dated on or before the closing date.

  2. Update as Admin: Log in as an Administrator and manually update the purchase order in QuickBooks.

  3. Change Date: Modify the date of the purchase order to be after the closing date.

  4. Reset Closing Date: Remove or reset the closing date in QuickBooks.

Setting a Closing Date and Password in QuickBooks Enterprise:

To set a closing date and password in QuickBooks Desktop, follow these steps:

  1. Open QuickBooks and sign in as the Admin.

  2. Go to Company and select Set Closing Date.

  3. Enter a Closing Date and Closing Date Password.

  4. Select OK.

Note: Setting a closing date helps protect prior year data from being changed. You can also set interim closing dates to prevent unintentional changes to reconciled periods throughout the year.
